'Sanctuary' Linocut Print
£32.00 - £35.00
This ferocious looking door knocker from Durham Cathedral is a historic symbol of sanctuary - in Medieval times, criminals and ne'er do wells could seek an escape from the law by grasping the ring of the door knocker on the North door of the cathedral and be sheltered by the monks for 37 days, to either repent or plan their escape!
By the way, the right of sanctuary was abolished in 1624...
This bold linocut print of this distinctive Durham beastie is perfect for history lovers.
Printed by hand in small batches on high quality archival Hereford 145gsm paper with oil based Cranfield Black ink. Created from a single hand carved piece of lino, each unique pressing will vary slightly due to subtle differences.
Available mounted to fit a standard 12" x 10" frame, or unmounted - paper size A4 approximately. Framed photos for reference only.
